Please join us this Friday, April 20th, in the El Marino Library to listen to stories from our FEATURED AUTHORS: Laura Lacámara and James Mihaley.

Laura Lacámara will present her award-winning book Floating on Mama’s Song / Flotando en la Canción de Mamá where Anita's mama loves to sing. She sings such beautiful, happy songs that something magical happens: Everyone who hears her music floats high above the ground. But then Mama stops singing. Can Anita find a way to bring back happy times and magical moments for her family?

Floating on Mama’s Song / Flotando en la Canción de Mamá is a bilingual picture book inspired by Laura's mother, who was an opera singer in Havana, Cuba. It was awarded a Junior Library Guild Selection for Fall 2010 and is a Tejas Star Book Award Finalist for 2011 - 2012. In addition to giving a reading of her book, Laura will also be doing a fun drawing demonstration!

James Mihaley will present his just-released first novel You Can't Have My Planet, But Take My Brother, Please where thirteen-year-old Giles is the last person anyone would expect to save the planet. He's not as charming as his little sister, and not as brainy as his goody-goody older brother. But when Giles witnesses an alien realtor showing Earth to possible new tenants, he knows he'd better do something. With the help of an alien "attorney" and the maddest scientist in middle-grade fiction, Giles just might save humans from eviction from Earth. Let's hope so. The alternatives are...not so hospitable.

Along with writing novels, James is also a poet and a screenwriter. He is a professional hip hop dancer and choreographer. He has milked cows. He drove 1,000 miles in one day for a rock concert. Once, he almost got eaten by a shark. He lives in L.A., where he avoids the paparazzi and feeds the pigeons.

It's going to be a fun evening! Hope to see you there!
