Advocates for Language Learning, El Marino (ALLEM)
ADVOCATES FOR LANGUAGE LEARNING EL MARINO (ALLEM), a 501(c)(3), non‐profit organization at El Marino, raises money to provide a native-speaking language support provider (an adjunct) in every classroom. This allows the teachers to give more individualized attention to the children in their classes. Adjuncts are fluent in the target language and converse with the students only in this language. This greatly reduces the student‐to‐teacher ratio and allows the teacher to break the class up into smaller groups, either to provide special attention to those who need it, or to allow the students to take on more interesting and complex projects.
ALLEM also facilitates local and abroad exchanges, the annual Children’s Day in May, Speaking in Tongues and after school enrichment classes, which focus on the culture and arts of Japan and the Spanish speaking countries. There is an additional cost for these classes. ALLEM fundraisers include the Amazon Rewards and eScrip program, Silent Auction, Box Tops, Glitter Ball, and a variety of other fundraisers. ALLEM encourages each family to pledge financial support according to the family’s resources. The ALLEM Board meets monthly.
ALLEM is a non-profit organization. Your donations may be tax-deductible. Please see a tax advisor regarding your eligibility.
