¡Bienvenidos al salón 4!

Dear Parents,

Welcome! I am happy to have the privilege of working with you and your child this year! My name is Maestra Miller and I will be your child’s fourth grade teacher for the 2018-19 academic year. As your child’s teacher, I strive to create a safe and fun learning environment for our students. By all of us working together, this will be a successful year!

Homework will usually be assigned each day and is due the following day, unless it is a book report or other project.  Students are expected to correctly copy their homework off the board and record it in their homework planner/agenda. Homework is important because it reinforces what we have learned in class. Students in fourth grade are expected to spend about 60 minutes on homework.  In order to assist your child, please provide a quiet place for them to complete their homework. Please go over the homework with your child daily and make sure it is completed neatly and accurately to the best of their ability. Please sign their homework planners /agendas daily. Independent reading for 30 minutes is expected as part of the homework; they should be encouraged to read from a variety of genres such as books, magazines, gaming guides, newspapers, graphic novels, comic books, or anything of their own choosing! They will check out a Spanish book as well as an English book from the library weekly and are expected to read them both. Also, fourth grade teachers would like them to do approximately ten minutes of recorder practice. If they are absent, they are expected to make up both homework and classwork. They will have the number of days they are absent to make up the work.   In order to promote maximum learning, an excellent classroom environment is expected. Our classroom rules are simple: Respect, Listen, Learn, and Cooperate. As a class we have created a list of rules and posted these in the classroom. Students who have difficulty will be asked to write a reflection, which they must have signed by the parents.

Communication between the teacher and parents is vital. I am available by email at [email protected]. I will do my best to respond within a 24-hour period. You can also write me a note, write in your child’s planner, or leave a message for me in the office in person or by telephone (310) 842-4241. If you would like to set up a meeting, please contact me ahead of time. I respectfully request that we refrain from having impromptu conferences at the start of the school day, especially after the bell rings. If it is urgent, please remember that I may only be speaking in Spanish when students are present, to uphold the spirit and philosophy of immersion education.

I look forward to an exciting year of growth and learning!

                                                                                                            Sincerely,

                                                                                                            Maestra Miller

Estimados Padres:

¡Bienvenidos!

                                                          Sinceramente,

                                                          Maestra Miller
