Cultural Assemblies

PTA Cultural Assemblies are a means to expose our students to openness, diversity, tolerance and creativity, hosting performances one Wednesday per month.  One assembly is for our TK – 2nd graders, and one for our 3rd – 5th graders.

The mission of any learning institution must include the introduction of new ideas, thoughts and perspectives to its students.  At El Marino Language School, this mission takes on even more relevance as we consider the unique classroom environment in which our students learn as well as the wonderfully diverse nature of both our teachers and our city.

This school year, to the delight of our students, we’ve had the opportunity to host a number of events, including:

  • Story-telling from author Sunny Seki, with a focus on Japanese literature and culture

The response from our students and staff to these performances has been overwhelming positive, and we hope to continue the rest of the year with the following:

  • January 23 - Story Pirates, where students create their own stories and then watch as their work is expressed live by performers
  • February 13 - Baba the Story Teller, a practitioner of the ancient West African storytelling craft known as Jaliyaa
  • March 20 - Diavolo, a dance company that builds appreciation for movement and teamwork by breaking down barriers to dance
  • May 15 - Viver Brasil, a dance company uses contemporary dance theater and increases awareness of the rich history of Afro-Brazilian dance and music

Announcements will com on Facebook and via the Dolphin Splash, but please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly with any questions or suggestions for next school year at Daniel.Behrendt@ElMarinoPTA.org.

Thank you for all your support!
