The El Marino School Garden is maintained and run entirely by parent volunteers!
We have 7 large, irrigated planter beds that are seeded in the fall and produce food all school year long.
Our goal is to:
-
Expose students to the natural process of growing healthy food and get them excited about eating it!
-
Get kids' hands dirty in the garden and educate them on healthy eating habits and botany.
-
In a normal school year, children from every grade get to plant, harvest, and taste individual salads made up of fresh vegetables and fruits grown right on campus. Even the pickiest eaters taste new foods here.
The rewards of this volunteer job are priceless. When was the last time you saw an entire class of 2nd graders ask for more Dinosaur Kale, or eat a borage flower dipped in lemon dressing?
